Commercial Court is awarded as the “Most Transparent Cour for 2023 year”

Commercial Court of Kosovo has been awarded as the “Most Transparent Court for 2023.” This award was delivered during a round table organized by “Lëvizja FOL”, with the support of the U.S. Department of State, through the Bureau of International Narcotics and Rule of Law (INL). The round table with the topic “Enhancing Judicial Transparency through the publication of Court Rulings for the year 2023” was held to present findings from the systematic monitoring of publication of decisions of Kosovo Courts’ during the previous year. This activity aims to increase transparency and public’s trust in the domestic judicial system.

Commercial Court of Kosovo was awarded as the “Most Transparent Court” in assessment of publication of over 4,400 Judgments during 2023 year. In his speech, President of the Commercial Court, Mahir Tutuli, thanked organizers and congratulated all the Courts that have contributed towards transparency and accountability of the judicial system. “This award is a testament to our commitment to ensure that every Court decision is accessible to citizens. Whilst, my thanks to Kosovo Judicial Council for the continuous support in this difficult stage of the constitution and completion of the Court. The present award, despite the challenges and difficulties that the Commercial Court has encountered as a new Court, is an appreciation of efforts of  the Judges and of the staff of the Court, with an aim to increase transparency and improve access to the Court decisions”, stated Tutuli.

On the other hand, the Chair of KJC Mr. Albert Zogaj by thanking ‘Lëvizja Fol” and INL has stated that  publication of Judgments not only that increases transparency, but also promotes accountability and trust in the judicial system, adding that the fact of publishing thousands of Judgments’ of Kosovo Courts is an evidence of the judiciary’s commitment to provide full access to the public.

Director of INL in Kosovo Tamra Greig, said that she feels very happy with these findings and with the progress made by the Courts of Kosovo, in particular with Commercial Court, “We are proud that Commercial Court, a single center for business-related disputes that aims to improve business environment in Kosovo, the growth of private sector and foreign direct investments has been acknowledged at this period of time.  Commercial Court has not only demonstrated its commitment towards transparency, but has been also proven to be efficient.

In its first year, Commercial Court has achieved a rate of 113% resolved cases, by resolving more cases than it had received.  This success is obvious”, also by encouraging continuation of  publication of Judgments.  Also, has expressed the willingness of INL to support judicial system and civil society, in order to monitor and comment judiciary’s performance.

The “Most Transparent Court” award is an important initiative that motivates Courts’ to be more open and accessible to the citizens, thus contributing in building a fair and reliable judicial system.
